Grooming FAQs

The Woofers Grooming difference: At Woofers, we have learned that the best grooming results come when dogs feel relaxed and confident. Over the last eight years of grooming at our salons, we have refined existing techniques that reduce stress and anxiety to keep dogs happy and comfortable. Our qualified dog trainers work with our salon staff to ensure calm and effective animal handling to maximise your dog’s salon experience, improves the final result, and keeps the service affordable.

Importance of regular grooming: Recurring grooming appointments not only keep a dog’s coat looking great, but it also helps maintain their skin and physical health and comfort. It prevents painful matting and knots in the coat, prevents the build-up of bacteria and dermatitis (hot-spots) and keeps the dog free of pests such as fleas. During your dog’s appointment, your groomer will keep an eye out for lumps, bumps and injuries that could signal a health problem.

How often should my dog be groomed? Grooming needs will vary depending on the coat and your dog’s habits. Some dogs only require an occasional bath, brush and nail trim whereas others may need more regular brushing or even concentrated brushing during their season change of coat. For advice about your pet’s grooming needs, please ask our experienced salon staff. We’re always happy to help!

How long will the appointment take? Each grooming appointment is allotted a four-hour window. This allows enough time to give your dog a break between each part of the grooming process. Providing an opportunity for the dogs to stretch their legs in the outdoor play area or have a nap in a rest pen makes the experience more tolerable and enjoyable. It makes the grooming process easier and faster.

What if I can’t make it to your salon? Woofers team of Dog Trainer and Animal Handlers are on the road each day, and with enough notice, we can arrange to pick up and drop off your dog in our Pet Taxi. The cost for this service is based on average cab fares. Approx. $15-$25

What if I can’t make it back within 4hours? We understand that your dog’s grooming appointment is not always the most crucial part of the day and if you need to leave them here with us then we can admit them into daycare, and we’re happy to offer discounted daycare as part of a grooming service. Nb. Daycare is not appropriate for all dogs and is dependant on the animal being comfortable and free from stress.

Do you have a mobile service to groom at my house? Woofers only have the one dog grooming location, and we are not mobile groomers. We have worked closely with some reputable mobile dog groomers in the area. See the referrals on our Useful Links page to see local mobile groomers.

What’s the difference in the grooming services?  Our grooming services vary according to the dog’s need. Nail trims and ear cleaning are always included in every service. There are five categories.

  • Bath & Brush: Warm variable pressure massage bath, basic brushing and stripping of undercoat (no scissors or clipping).
  • Bath & Tidy: Warm variable pressure massage bath, basic brushing and stripping of undercoat, and scissor tidy to face, feet and tail. Clipping of underbody as required.
  • Breed/Show Clip: Warm massage bath, brushing, and stripping of undercoat. Scissor shape to face/head and feet, clipping of underbody, upper body clip, shaping feathers and tail as required.
  • Puppy Bath & Clip: Warm massage bath, brushing, and basic stripping of undercoat. Basic scissor shape to face/head and feet, underbody clipping, upper body clip, shaping feathers and tail as required.
  • Full Clip/Stripping: Warm variable pressure massage bath, brushing, and stripping of undercoat. Scissor shape to face and feet, clipping of underbody, upper body clip, shaping feathers and tail as required.

How much will it cost? Woofers have an inclusive pricing structure, so all the basic features of a grooming appointment already included in your fees. (We don’t charge extra for simple things like nail clipping or ear cleaning). We also aim to make grooming as affordable as possible, so Groomers charge per hour.  No two dogs are the same, and the needs of each dog will vary, so we only charge for the time we spend on your dog. Our senior groomers charge $70 per hour (including GST), and we only charge for the time we spend on your dog. All rest and cuddle time is not charged.

To shave or not to shave my dog in summer? As evidence suggests, it’s best to keep a layer of fur to protect your dog from the sun.  Think about how cool it is sitting in the shade of a tree vs. sitting in direct sunlight.
